Tips for Bicycle-Friendly Workplace

Top 5 Tips for a Bicycle-Friendly Workplace on Friday, June 20th

1. Host a commuter cycling workshop or bike-repair workshop at your workplace to prepare employees for Bike to Work Day. To book a workshop, contact jessie@resourceconservation.mb.ca.

2. Provide safe, well-lit, secure bike parking. If indoor space isn't available, consider installing a bike cage. For Bike to Work Day, consider allowing bikes into the office for safe parking.

3. Post a Cyclist's Map of Winnipeg in a central location, or provide free cyclist's maps for employees to plan their route to work.

4. Declare a casual dress day to allow first time commuter cyclists to ride to work comfortably. Many cyclists on the road on June 20th will be doing so for the first time. Inexperienced cyclists may need time to make adjustments to their normal routine before becoming adopting new skills, including the ability to dress for both the weather and the office.

5. If possible, allow flexible work hours. Some novice cyclists may still be learning their route, others may be attending a pancake breakfast, etc...

Here's an idea: Start a "Bicycle User Group" (BUG) at your workplace.
See this page for more info on how to get one started.
